Captain William Ticehurst Jo, By the way I've found William Ticehurst's baptism dated 26/Sept/1794 at St Mary the Virgin church in Battle, son of William Ticehurst (1760, Dallington) and his wife Sophia. The Ticehurst family can be traced back a few generations in Dallington and Ashburnham. I'm still very interesting in learning something about William's life as a mariner. Regards, Chris |

Miss Constance Cane Dear Mary I know it is a long time since you posted your message re Miss Cane but I have only just come across the web site. We now live in Miss Canes old house. She lived here with two other friends, I think they had all been nurses. When Miss Cane passed away one friend, Miss Hare, continued to live in the house until she moved into a nursing home nearby. The house was then sold, which is when we purchased it. The large conservatory on the back of the house was obviously used for painting as there was a lot of racking to hold their equipment. I believe one of their pictures was hung in Battle Library. I am afraid I do not have any further information on Miss Cane as I did not know her personally. Kind regards Jane |

The Stone House Hi Caroline, you gave me some info in 2006. I have left another message but it will not show till tomorrow. If you have any more info i would be grateful if you can e-mail me.- hollies.girl2@yahoo.co.uk My mother had another sister called Nancy . She was in the old Battle workhouse when my mother was born. Her other sibling Vera K penfold was born in 1925 in Eastbourne, so i am assuming Nancy was born after Vera. When my mother was born, her mother Agnes went to live at an address in Kent, but i don't think Jesse went. Ithink they might have seperated . yet to find out if Nancy was Jesse's child. Carol |

Penfold Family I am looking for any info on my mother's family. My mother's name was Nora Rose Penfold. She was born on the29th of May 1928 at Stone House(the old Battle Workhouse) North Trade Road, Battle, East Sussex. Her parents were Jesse and Agnes Ann Brooks (nee Western) Penfold.Jesse was born in Eastbourne in 1897. Agnes was born in Portsmouthin Hampshire in 1903. Jesse and Agnes were married at Eastbourne Registry Office on the 24th November 1923. Jesse was A News Vendor at thae time. My mother had siblings- Vera K Penfold born in Eastbourne in 1925.Possibly Nancy Lilian and Jean. At the time of my mother's birth Jesse was a casual farm labourer at Udiam Farm, Bodiam, Hawkhurst in Kent. Agnes may have gone to live in another part of Kent after my mother's birth. Trying ti find out if Agnes lived there without Jesse. If anyone has any info, please get in touch. My e-mail is - hollies.girl2@yahoo.co.uk |
