Is anyone doing research on Battle workhouse around the 1840s or 1850's? My great grandfather was born there in 1840 and lived there for at least ten years, maybe more. I'm trying to get as much information on conditions, etc, at the time as part of my research. I will be visiting Battle for 2 days around April 13 and 14.

I am having difficulty finding accomodation in Battle April 11 and 12, 2010. I am travelling from Canada to visit the birth place of my great grandfather (the Battle Workhouse) and it seems all hotels and inns are fully booked. Can anyone help with local information? Unfortunately thaose dates are my only opportunity. Thank you. Allan (allan@millham.ca)
